Bell Ringers

Bell Ringers

Activity :

Worship

The oldest surviving part of St Alphege Church is the Tower in which 13 Bells are hung and below this, when you have climbed the 57 steps from the ground, is located the ringing room from where the bells are rung by people of all ages from 10 to 90 years old. Church bells are rung to call people to Church to worship God and to celebrate other events. We ring every Sunday from 10.15 to 11.00am for the Eucharist and later from 5.30pm to 6.30pm for evensong. We practice our ringing every Tuesday evening of the year from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. We ring for weddings and other special occasions and have an active social programme throughout the year when the rest of our families join us for outings, dinners, rambles and picnics. Our aim is to achieve a good standard of ringing, learning the basics of ringing only takes 2/3 months on one occasion per week. It is not difficult and does not need any great strength, just eyes, ears and a sense of co-ordination. If you drive a car you could ring Church Bells. We welcome all visitors to the tower to watch us ring and if you would like to learn then contact the Ringing Master or Tower Secretary whose details are available through the Parish Office, porch notice board or from the Parish Website. You are never too old to learn and it is great fun. We look forward to seeing you!
