Chorister for the Day - Boys 23rd Sept, Girls 30th Sept.

On Saturday 23rd September, boys in Year 3 and above from all over the Solihull borough are invited to take part in a rare opportunity to experience the life of a cathedral chorister for the day.  St Alphege Church in Solihull is lucky enough to be one of the few parish churches in the country that still possesses separate choirs of girls and boys and is able to offer an education similar to that of places like King’s College, Cambridge.  Girls have their own opportunity the following weekend, on Saturday 30th September.
The day includes singing and music theory games, plus fun activities, as well as a chance to explore the church and learn more about the lives of our current choristers at St Alphege.  Parents are welcome to stay for as much of the day as they wish, though adult supervision will be in place so parents are not obliged to stay.  The session for boys (on 23rd September) will run from 2pm to 5pm, with families invited to return in time to hear a service of Choral Evensong at 4.30pm.  The girls’ session (on Saturday 30th) takes place from 9.30am to 12.15pm, with families invited to return to hear a service at 11.45am.  Refreshments will be provided.
If your child is lively, articulate and is willing to learn, then do make contact with us.  Places are limited and the days are popular, so if your child would like to attend please contact the Director of Music, Joe Cooper on 07935 962677 or email

Silent Movie Night - 7th October

On Saturday 7th October, The Friends of St Alphege Music will be offering a special cinema experience with a difference with our Silent Movie Night. We will be showing the 1922 silent horror film ‘Nosferatu’ starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok, together with live, improvised organ accompaniment from internationally acclaimed organist, Alex Mason.
Nosferatu is universally recognised as one of the best horror films of all time, and has a key place in the history of cinema. It is an unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the production house was sued over its release and ordered to destroy all copies of the film. Fortunately for the history of cinema it was an order that could not be enforced, and a few copies remained.
Refreshments and a licensed bar will be available.  Doors and bar open at 7pm, the film starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for children.  Tel 0121 704 9388.
