more about baptism
Will I be expected to bring my child to worship?
In the baptism service the priest asks the parents and godparents two questions:
Parents and godparents, the Church receives this child with joy. Today we are trusting God for their growth in faith. Will you pray for them, draw them by your example into the community of faith and walk with them in the way of Christ?Answer: WITH THE HELP OF GOD WE WILL
In baptism this child begins his/her journey infaith. You speak for them today. Will you care for them, and help them to take their place within the life and worship of Christ's Church?Answer: WITH THE HELP OF GOD WE WILL.
So the answer is pretty clear isn't it? In all cases, parents are expected to attend a Preparation Evening in church before the baptism can take place.
What if I am unable to fulfil these promises? Is there nothing for us?
If baptism is just a step too far for now then we can offer a service to which family and friends may be invited called, Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child. This can be a joyous celebration to give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child, to name the child and to pray for family life.
