MORE frequently asked questions
I'm about to go into hospital and feel afraid: can you help me?
As a baby I wasn't baptized: is it too late now that I'm an adult?
I have to work on Sundays, do you have any mid-week services?
Do you cater for families with young children?
We can help in a number of ways:
we can pray for you, either in our daily round of prayers publicly, or privately.
Simply email the Parish Office with your details or contact the parish secretary.
A priest can come and visit you at home, or if you are in a local hospital can visit you in the ward, or contact the hospital chaplain on your behalf. Again, simply follow the above procedure.
You may wish to receive a ministry of prayer accompanied by the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil. This is not to be confused with the 'Last Rites' before death! In your bible, look up the Letter of James chapter 5, verses 14-16: this tells us what the first Christians understood they had to do to continue the healing work of Jesus. When a priest anoints a sick person with the Oil of the Sick which has been blessed by a bishop, the Church celebrates and brings the touch of Jesus, praying not only for a physical cure, but a cure of the whole person. This reminds the sick person that they have not been forgotten or abandoned by God and that they are not alone but supported by God's love and the love of the Christian community.
If you would like to explore this ministry further, please follow the above procedure in the first instance, after which a priest will arrange to see you.
It's never too late. In fact it is far more common today than people realize and we have a special course for you called, Just Explore.
Yes we do, usually three a day, and you are most welcome to join us at any of them:
Morning and Evening Prayer: a short service lasting about 15 minutes. Monday-Saturday, 9am & 5.30pm respectively - in the upper chapel near the high altar. Just come along.
Holy Eucharist: shorter than the Sunday celebration - 30 minutes : Monday, Tuesday & Saturday at 9.30am, Wednesday 10.15am (followed by coffee), Thursday 10.30am (followed by coffee), Friday in St Helen's Church at 10.00am.
On the greater festivals there is a sung eucharist at 7.30pm.
Families with children are made very welcome at any of our churches. The parish has many ways for both the parents and the children to join in, and you can make a start by visiting for families.
