Wednesday Lunch Club 12.30pm Every Wednesday
Weekly hot lunches are provided for people in the neighbourhood who live alone or who are lonely or disabled. Those who come, look forward to the regular outing, the good food (always freshly cooked) and the fellowship they share. Transport can usually be arranged where needed.
The club is run by 40 volunteers working on a once a month, or fortnightly basis. Help is always welcomed – cooks, drivers and general helpers.
Contact – June Paddock 0121 705 2767.
We seek to be a caring church, concerned for the needs of one another and of those outside our church community. Please tell our Vicar or one of our Readers if you need help yourself, or are particularly concerned about someone else. A pastoral visit may be appropriate or other practical help may be needed. They will also be pleased to hear of ways in which people are able to offer help, e.g. by giving lifts to and from St Helen’s, or by visiting those who are lonely or alone.
Giving to Others
Through the charity Educaid Africa, we are currently sponsoring two students in Kenya through their education.
A good number of St Helen’s congregation give voluntary help on a regular basis in the community and the Wednesday Lunch Club is a good example of this. Others are involved in the local Marie Curie Hospice, Solihull Stroke Club, Acorns Children’s Hospice and in organisations helping the homeless, together with the local Citizens Advice Bureau, the Town Centre Chaplaincy and many others.
